[Friends of St. Christina Orthodox Church]

Dear Friends of St. Christina,

 

Glory to Jesus Christ!

 

Attached are our bulletin and prayer list from this past weekend as well as
our calendar for August. There is a lot of information in the bulletin about
what is going on, including our proposed move to Parish Ave, our summer
reading program, etc.. We also had a beautiful patronal feast day last week.
Truly we are blessed to have the Martyr Christina as our heavenly patron and
can be confident of her intercession for each of us as well as for the
successful ministry of our mission.

 

In addition, as we announced during fellowship hour, we raised $546 for St.
Herman's Seminary in Alaska as part of our annual Seminary Collection in
July. This is in addition to the amount we raised for St. Tikhon's Seminary
during the visit of their male octet at the beginning of June.

 

We also announced that all of the pledge cards for the $15,000 for our New
Place Fund have been submitted and we have collected $13,500 so far. This
leaves only $1,500 remaining to be collected. (The New Place Fund was
established to help pay for the costs of obtaining the City of Fremont's
approval - permits, etc. - to occupy the property on Parish Ave. This is
separate from our Building Fund which is solely for the purpose of
purchasing property for the mission to use as a temple.)

 

We had a very productive 1st meeting of our Events/Fundraising Committee.
The committee is planning the following:

.         Our 2nd Annual Building Fund Raffle that will begin at the end of
August and be drawn when all the tickets are sold, but before the end of
2008.

.         a Mission Open House on Oct 8&9 in connection with a yard/tag
sale, lectures and presentations on the Orthodox Christian Faith, and a
Santa Maria BBQ.

.         Our 2nd Annual "Down Payment" Banquet in February prior to the
beginning of the Great Fast.

.         Our 3rd Annual Paschal Bake Sale on Palm Sunday (April 12)

.         Our 3rd Annual Pysanki Workshop on April 5.

.         To have an information/food booth at the Fremont Festival of Arts
at the beginning of August next year in 2009

.         In addition, the committee is investigating.

o   The costs and legal requirements of establishing a "kiosk" or mini-book
store for events such as our Open House, Lecture Series, Bake Sale, etc. 

o   co-hosting a lecture series with Ohlone Community College about the
Orthodox Christian Faith.

o   if there are any vocal groups coming to the area in the spring to host a
concert much like the one we hosted in 2007.

Thanks to everyone who participated and who agreed to take on various tasks
and responsibilities!
